About YEG Bus

YEG Bus is a free web app and Android widget that shows when the next Edmonton bus or LRT train reaches your stop. It's built for one job: you open it, and the times for the stops you actually use are already there.

Why it exists

Most transit apps open on a map of the whole city and make you search for your stop every time. Riders who take the same two or three buses every day mostly want one thing: how long until my bus, and do I need to leave now? YEG Bus keeps your stops on the first screen, counts down to the buses you ride, and can tell you when to leave based on your walk to the stop.

It also covers the moments other apps miss. When your phone is out of data, it still shows the timetable it saved earlier, and it puts a one-tap text to ETS's 31100 service right on the stop. When ETS closes a stop for construction, it tells you and points you to the replacement stop.

Where the times come from

Every time, route and stop comes from the City of Edmonton's open data: the Edmonton Transit Service schedule (GTFS) and its real-time feeds for trip updates, vehicle positions and service alerts. Our server reads those feeds every 30 seconds and passes the times for your stops to your phone. Addresses and places come from OpenStreetMap, and maps use OpenStreetMap tiles.

Not an official ETS app

YEG Bus is an independent project. It isn't made, endorsed or supported by Edmonton Transit Service or the City of Edmonton. Fares, accessibility services, lost and found and service changes are handled by ETS: see edmonton.ca/ets or call 311.

Live times are as good as the data ETS publishes. A bus can be cancelled, detoured or early, so leave yourself a little time on cold days.

How it's paid for

YEG Bus is free to use and needs no account. The website shows a small number of Google ads at the edges of the screen, never on top of your bus times, and you can buy us a coffee on Ko-fi if it saves you a cold wait. The Android app and the wall board have no ads. See the privacy page for what that means for your data.
